DOUG RODAS
Doug Rodas (he/him) is a Salvadoran graphic designer and illustrator based in Toronto, Canada. Focused on creating concepts and visual campaigns for brands that are innovating the creative market, Doug's work tells stories through a party of bright colours, textures, and patterns, and of the time, typography is the special guest. Great contrast, balance and symmetry are other elements that are always present in his work.
Doug has successfully done projects for clients in the USA, Canada, UK, Norway, Australia, among others. His work has been selected in different exhibitions and has received awards in El Salvador, Spain and Argentina.
Doug's creative process often starts with music and the things that inspire him the most, such as his friends and issues around diversity and queer identity. Much of his creative process relies on experimenting with colours, textures, type design, and the stylization and simplification of shapes. For Doug, this process is never linear, as he gives himself the freedom to create illustrations that stray from perfection and hyperrealism. For him, the important thing is to convey the emotions that inspire each of his artworks, using characters and elements to build his fantasy world: One where diversity and creativity are the most elemental values.
Generally, Doug's process relies on digital techniques to create his illustrations, using software like Photoshop and Procreate that allow him to create his richly-layered, texture-based compositions. Lately, Doug has been also experimenting with frame-by-frame animations to bring the characters that inhabit his universe to life, a technique he hopes to continue mastering in the future.
